Common Menstrual Concerns
Symptoms and discomfort related to menstruation can happen to anyone.
Do you endure it alone, thinking, “It’s just my constitution,” or “Everyone else puts up with it”? Here are some of the most frequent menstrual concerns brought to our clinic. Please feel free to consult us if any of these symptoms are familiar to you.
Menstrual Pain (Dysmenorrhea)
“My period is painful every month,” “I can’t live without painkillers”… For those who relate.
Menstrual pain accompanied by severe abdominal or lower back pain, nausea, or headaches is called dysmenorrhea. Underlying conditions such as endometriosis or uterine fibroids may be present. We propose treatment methods, such as low-dose birth control pills or Kampo medicine, that suit your lifestyle.
Irregular Menstruation
“My period sometimes comes, sometimes doesn’t,” “My cycle is unpredictable”… Don’t ignore it.
If your menstrual cycle is less than 24 days or more than 39 days, or if it is consistently irregular, it may be due to a hormonal imbalance. We perform testing and treatment tailored to the cause, including cases of amenorrhea (absence of menstruation) and oligomenorrhea (infrequent menstruation).
Abnormal Menstrual Flow
“Too much or too little bleeding” is also a sign to seek consultation.
Symptoms such as hefty bleeding (menorrhagia), extremely light bleeding (hypomenorrhea), or passing liver-like clots may be due to hormonal abnormalities or uterine disease. We perform an ultrasound examination as needed to determine the course of treatment.
Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) / Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD)
“I feel emotionally unstable before my period,” “My physical health breaks down”…
PMS is the state where premenstrual irritability, depression, sleepiness, or swelling interfere with daily life, and PMDD is the severe form. However, treatments such as low-dose pills, Kampo medicine, or counseling are known to reduce PMS.
Menstrual Troubles in Puberty (First Period)
“My daughter’s cycle is unstable. “She has to skip school because of abdominal pain”…
A young girl’s menstrual cycle can be unstable for the first few years. However, if she experiences severe menstrual pain, heavy bleeding, or long periods of irregularity, we recommend consultation. We provide clear explanations to ensure both the patient and their family feel reassured.
