For early pregnancy abortion (up to 11 weeks, 6 days), treatment is performed under general anesthesia. For later abortions (after 12 weeks), the abortion is performed using the delivery-method, but you may choose a painless delivery method.

Uterus-friendly surgical method

Our surgical abortion is by a suction method that is gentle on the uterus. We take great care to minimize damage to the uterus so that abortion treatment does not become a cause of infertility in the future.

Also possible on first consultation day

To reduce physical and mental burden as much as possible, we endeavor to accommodate your needs and circumstances. As part of that, if you desire, we can perform an induced abortion on the same day as your first consultation. We flexibly respond to various situations such as “Wanting treatment as soon as possible,” “wanting to minimize burdens,” and “difficulty in visiting many times.” Of course, after providing sufficient explanation and obtaining your consent, we will offer medical care with attention to safety, so please feel assured in consulting us.

For those in early pregnancy: option of medication abortion

We also offer medication abortion (drug-induced abortion) for those in early pregnancy. This uses approved abortion drugs under the regulation of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and is a newer treatment method. It is an option for those who want to reduce bodily burden or are anxious about surgery. Under physician supervision, through several outpatient visits and checkups, the treatment is completed.

• Feel resistance to surgery
• Want to proceed at their own pace
• Wish to have abortion by medication under physician management

Mid-term abortion (from 12 weeks 0 days to 21 weeks 6 days) — usually 1 to 2 nights hospitalization required

You are eligible to receive the “childbirth & childcare lump-sum allowance” (shussan ikuji ichijikin) of ¥488,000 per child for mid-term abortion.

If you request a painless delivery (anesthesia), there is an additional anesthesia fee of ¥100,000 + ¥100,000 for 24-hour painless management fee.

Q	Can the abortion operation be done on the same day as the first visit?
A	Yes. At our clinic, if the gestational age, your physical condition, and test results are acceptable, the operation can be done on the same day as the first visit. We are flexible in responding to urgent needs or particular circumstances. It is recommended to consult by phone in advance.
Q	What method is the surgery?
A	Surgery at our clinic is performed by uterine content removal (suction method). Prioritizing safety, it is a short outpatient surgical procedure under intravenous anesthesia, to minimize pain and anxiety.
Q	How much does it cost? Is insurance applicable?
A	Abortion surgery is private (non-insured) medical care. The cost varies depending on gestational age and surgery content.
Q	How long does the surgery take, and how soon can I go home?
A	The surgery itself takes about 10-15 minutes. Including anesthesia recovery, from your visit until going home takes approximately 3-4 hours, though this may vary between individuals.
Q	Does someone need to accompany me?
A	Because intravenous anesthesia is used, on the day of surgery you should not drive a car or ride a bicycle. If possible, please come with a companion, or use public transit. Coming alone is possible, but for safety please follow our guidance carefully. We are sorry, but there is no waiting room for companions. Thank you for your understanding.
Q	Can I return to normal life immediately after surgery?
A	On the day of surgery, please rest at home. From the next day, light daily activity is possible, but please refrain from strenuous exercise or sexual intercourse for about one week. If you are concerned about any symptoms, please contact us early.
Q	Will I be able to get pregnant after abortion?
A	If performed properly during early pregnancy, abortion surgery has almost no significant effect on future pregnancy and childbirth. However, it is important to observe postoperative progress to prevent infection or complications.
Q	What is required to undergo the abortion procedure?
A	A consent form is required. Also, by law, minors (under 18) need parental consent form and accompaniment. If you have been issued a Maternal and Child Health Handbook (boshi techo), please bring it just in case.
Q	My period has stopped but I’m not sure if I’m pregnant. Can I have just a test?
A	Yes, pregnancy testing (urine test, ultrasound test) to confirm whether you are pregnant is available any time. Please feel free to consult first.
Q	Is mental care available after abortion?
A	Mental and physical care is very important. At our clinic, postoperative consultations and follow-up are provided by doctors and midwives. If needed, we can also introduce external counselors or specialist organizations.
