Uterine/Cervical Cancer Screening and Vaccination — The Era of Protecting Against Cervical Cancer Through Prevention and Early Detection —

Your future self deserves this small action. We believe that uterine cancer is a disease that can be prevented through regular screening and vaccination, and we want all women, regardless of age or lifestyle, to receive these services. We welcome you with a reassuring environment and careful care. Please feel free to consult us and book your appointment.

What is Uterine Cancer?

Screening is vital right now, even if you don’t have symptoms.

Uterine cancer is treatable if discovered early. Cervical cancer, in particular, is increasing among younger women in their 20s and 30s, and there are often no symptoms in the early stages. This is precisely why receiving regular screenings “when nothing is wrong” is a crucial step to protect your future. We accommodate patients who request a female physician and female staff and conduct screenings in a private setting that prioritizes privacy. First-time visitors can consult us with confidence.

Main Types of Uterine Cancer

 Cervical Cancer

  • This cancer develops in the cervix (the entrance to the uterus).
  • It is primarily caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection, and any woman who has been sexually active is at risk of developing it.

 Endometrial Cancer

  • This cancer develops in the lining of the uterus (endometrium).
  • It is often discovered due to symptoms like abnormal bleeding and tends to increase in women aged late 40s and older.

*Early detection is the key to both diseases. Uterine cancer screening helps detect these conditions early.

Content of Screening

A few minutes of testing can lead to future peace of mind. Our uterine cancer screening is designed to minimize pain and anxiety as much as possible. The entire process, from consultation to examination, is conducted in a privacy-focused environment. We encourage you to have regular checkups, even if you don’t have any symptoms.

Our Uterine Cancer Screening

  • Medical Interview and Consultation: We inquire about your menstrual cycle and any concerning symptoms.
  • Visual Examination and Pelvic Exam: We visually check the condition of the uterus and vagina.
  • Cervical Cytology (Pap Smear): Cells are collected from the entrance of the uterus using a dedicated brush (Minimal pain).
  • Endometrial Biopsy: Performed if you have irregular menstruation or abnormal bleeding.
  • Transvaginal Ultrasound: The condition of the uterus and ovaries is checked using an ultrasound.

*If you are anxious about the pelvic exam, please be assured that we will explain the procedure carefully in advance.

About the Cervical Cancer Vaccine

Choosing to “prevent” future cervical cancer at the earliest possible stage.

The leading cause of cervical cancer is infection with the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is a widespread virus, with most sexually active women being infected at least once, but certain types are involved in the development of cervical cancer. The Cervical Cancer Vaccine (HPV Vaccine) prevents HPV infection and can significantly reduce the risk of future cervical cancer.
The highest preventive effect is expected when the vaccine is administered early, in the teenage years or early 20s.

Types of Vaccines

Currently, three types of HPV vaccines are available in Japan.

Vaccine Name Target HPV Types Features
Cervarix
/ 2-valent
HPV Types 16 & 18 Targets the leading cause of cervical cancer (high-risk types).
Gardasil
/ 4-valent
HPV Types 6, 11, 16, & 18 Prevents genital warts (condyloma acuminata) in addition to cervical cancer.
Silgard 9
/ 9-valent
HPV Types 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, & 58 Broadly covers high-risk HPV types, potentially preventing about 90% of cervical cancers. Also covers types prevalent in Japan (52 & 58).

※Our clinic recommends the Silgard 9 (9-valent vaccine) due to its high preventative effectiveness.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) — HPV vaccine —

We carefully address your concerns regarding side effects and optimal timing. We frequently receive questions from parents and individuals regarding the HPV vaccine (also known as the Cervical Cancer Vaccine), such as: “Is it really safe to get the shot?” and “When is the best time?”

Here, we answer common questions and concerns from a physician’s perspective.

QI’m concerned about side effects…?
ATemporary pain or swelling at the injection site, fever, or fatigue may occasionally occur, but these usually resolve within a few days. Serious side effects are infrequent, and safety has been confirmed by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
QIs it still effective for adults?
AEven if you are sexually active, you are not necessarily infected with all HPV types, so the vaccine still offers a degree of preventative effect. The vaccination schedule varies by age, so please consult us first.
QDo I still need cervical cancer screening if I get the vaccine?
ANo. The vaccine does not prevent all types of cervical cancer. We recommend regular cervical cancer screening even after vaccination.

In Closing

Combining the HPV vaccine with regular cervical cancer screening is the most reliable way to protect your health. Please do not overlook preventable cancers. Feel free to consult us for your future peace of mind.
