Soshi Ushimaru

Profile

He began his career as an obstetrician under the guidance of Dr. Osamu Tsutsumi at Sanno Hospital (Junwakai Foundation), where he managed deliveries and pregnancies and provided general infertility treatments, including In Vitro Fertilization. While serving at the MFICU (Maternal-Fetal Intensive Care Unit) at Saitama Medical University General Medical Center, he managed high-risk pregnancies and deliveries, engaging in maternal transfer and resuscitation. The experience of working and saving lives during sudden changes in maternal condition, such as massive hemorrhage during delivery, led to the realization that “to run an obstetrics practice safely, one must be able to manage the patient’s entire system.” This conviction inspired him to join the Anesthesiology Department at the University of Tokyo to study systemic patient management. At the University of Tokyo Hospital’s Anesthesiology Department, he performed anesthesia for general surgical procedures—including neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, and digestive surgery —as well as robotic surgery, in addition to obstetric and gynecological general anesthesia. He also performed anesthesia for organ transplants (heart, liver, lung, and kidney), a unique service at the University of Tokyo Hospital, sometimes doing so twice a week. Furthermore, he worked in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) and the Pain Clinic at the University of Tokyo Hospital.

Profile

He is the father of Clinic Director Soshi Ushimaru and a former Lecturer of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Nagasaki University. With a career spanning over half a century as an obstetrician, he has attended over 50,000 deliveries. Clinic Director Sohshi Ushimaru recalls being frequently approached by people in Nagasaki while walking with his father, who said, “The child you delivered is this big now,” and states, “My admiration for my father, who his patients so appreciated, inspired me to become an obstetrician.” He is a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology who continuously maintains a patient-first mindset in his daily practice.
