Inpatient Guide

Here, we guide you through the hospitalization process at Tokyo Birth Clinic. Learn how we support a secure and premium childbirth experience with 24-hour epidural delivery, comfortable private rooms, and comprehensive postnatal care.

Childbirth Plan

To ensure your once-in-a-lifetime delivery meets your wishes, let us work together on a Birth Plan that is as flexible as a wedding plan. You can choose your delivery method from Natural Birth, Epidural Delivery, Scheduled Induction, or Planned Epidural Delivery, based on your preference.

Our 24-Hour Epidural Delivery Readiness Policy

Many medical facilities offer epidural delivery. But labor typically begins late at night or early in the morning. Unless they administer epidural procedures outside operating hours, you may have to endure labor pain until the morning. Conversely, even if labor begins during the day and the epidural has started, there are cases where continuous pain management is unavailable if the delivery extends into the night, outside designated hours. Because we know such scenarios, our clinic performs epidural delivery 24 hours a day, regardless of when labor begins.

Benefits of Epidural Delivery

Epidural delivery offers benefits from four aspects: the Mother, the Baby, the Family, and Medical Management.

Benefits for the Mother — During Pregnancy, Delivery, and Postpartum —

It eliminates the intense pain of labor, allowing for a delivery that is relaxed both mentally and physically. It is common for expectant mothers to feel anxious about labor pain during pregnancy. However, the reassurance of being able to have an epidural delivery allows you to spend your pregnancy with peace of mind. Since epidural delivery avoids unnecessary physical exhaustion due to pain, postpartum recovery is faster, and the body’s recovery needed for subsequent childcare is smoother.

Benefits for the Baby — Labor is Strenuous for the Baby, too —

Imagine the baby passing through a narrow, tight canal that barely accommodates their body—this is strenuous for the baby. Beyond that, contractions impair blood flow to the uterus and placenta, which reduces the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the baby, and the uterine contractions tightly compress the baby’s body. Epidural delivery can alleviate the baby’s burden by improving blood flow to the uterus and placenta through the vasodilating effect of the anesthesia, thereby supplying more oxygen to the baby.

Benefits for the Family — A Once-in-a-Lifetime Memory —

In natural childbirth, as they say, labor pain can “make you pass out.” When attending moments of birth, it is not uncommon for family members to feel distressed upon witnessing the mother’s struggle with contractions. Since the epidural delivery at Tokyo Birth Clinic relieves the mother from such pain, the birth becomes a beautiful memory for the family.

Benefits for Medical Management — During and After Childbirth —

If obstetric procedures are necessary after delivery, local anesthesia may not be adequate. With epidural delivery, you can receive obstetric procedures after childbirth without pain. Furthermore, in the rare event of an emergency Cesarean section, the transition to the C-section can be made smoothly by utilizing the epidural anesthesia already administered, without needing to add new surgical anesthesia, thereby reducing the burden on the baby.

Benefits of Planned Epidural Delivery

Unlike childbirth, which requires waiting for labor to begin before admission, a Planned Epidural Delivery allows you to decide the delivery date in advance and proceed with preparations. This means you can schedule the date to fit your family’s plans. For example, if you desire a partner-attended birth, you can schedule it around your husband’s days off, or avoid important children’s events (such as school entrance ceremonies or sports days). Additionally, when the admission date is set, your delivery is not based on the onset of labor pain, making it more feasible to achieve a pain-free birth from start to finish. Planned Induction at Tokyo Birth Clinic often results in a shorter delivery time than a natural birth, leading to faster postpartum physical recovery than epidural deliveries, where you wait for labor to start. This allows you to smoothly transition into focusing on childcare.

Childbirth Celebration Gift

As a gift to celebrate your delivery, we will present you with our exclusive, premium original silk pajamas, created in collaboration with Foo Tokyo. Foo Tokyo is a luxury lifestyle brand founded in Tokyo in 2017 that designs tranquil at-home experiences. Since its founding, the brand has expanded its presence in major department stores and select shops, with activities ranging from developing in-flight wear for the luxury cruise train “Nanatsuboshi” to private jets.

The Clinic Director’s wish is behind this special gift: to allow mothers, who often experience sleep deprivation while raising their newborns, to “rest and heal as much as possible, even for a brief time, by enveloping themselves in the sumptuous material of these melting silk pajamas.” These original pajamas are made from the highest-grade silk, 6A/5A-ranked silk.

Esthetic Services During Your Stay

During your stay, we offer services to support your body, which may be fatigued from pregnancy and childbirth. Esthetic treatments for the patient are included in the hospitalization fee.

A woman’s body after the monumental event of childbirth is more delicate than often assumed, requiring time and careful attention for recovery. The pelvis, in particular, becomes more easily loosened or misaligned due to pregnancy and delivery. By providing appropriate postnatal care, you can improve your physical condition and prevent or alleviate issues such as fatigue, back pain, and changes in body shape. Our clinic offers comprehensive postpartum care and esthetics, including treatment focused on the postpartum pelvis, administered by specialized therapists certified in postnatal care and esthetics.

Through comfortable treatment, we gently align the pelvic area, soothe postpartum fatigue, and restore your mind-body balance. We invite you to take a moment for yourself—a time to take a deep, peaceful breath.

Rebalance Course (90 minutes)

This is a comprehensive, full-body massage that covers you from head to pelvis and down to your toes. It is a tailored, custom-made treatment that focuses intensively on the area of your body you identified as most bothersome during your consultation, ensuring it is specific to your individual needs.

Baby Massage for Your Newborn

What is Baby Massage?

Baby massage involves gently massaging the baby’s skin with oil. Through skin-to-skin contact with the baby, various positive effects are reported not only for the baby but also for the mother performing the massage.

For the baby, the moderate stimulation from the massage is believed to promote brain development and enhance metabolism and immunity through improved circulation. In addition, welcome benefits that support daily childcare, such as reduced stomach discomfort and deeper sleep, can be expected.

Furthermore, for the mother, the benefit is that the postpartum mind and body can easily become calm by touching the baby’s soft skin and feeling their joyful expressions. This promotes the secretion of oxytocin (the “love hormone”) and endorphins (the “happiness hormone”), leading to increased confidence and positive feelings toward childcare.

Our Fees: 3,300 yen (tax included)

Primary Benefits for Your Baby:

  • Supports Brain Development
  • Enhances Immunity and Metabolism
  • Alleviates Abdominal Discomfort
  • Improves Sleep Quality
  • Promotes Mind-Body Relaxation

When to Be Admitted

For Planned Delivery

Please plan to be admitted by 4:00 PM the day before the planned delivery date or by 8:00 AM on the day of delivery. Whether you are accepted the day before or on the day itself will be finalized during your most recent doctor’s consultation.

For Admission After Labor Begins

If you feel that labor has begun, please call the clinic first. Our medical staff will advise you on the appropriate time to come to the clinic.

The time taken from the start of labor to delivery differs between first-time mothers (primiparas) and experienced mothers (multiparas). As a guideline, we typically ask first-time mothers to come when contractions are once every 10 minutes, and experienced mothers when contractions are once every 15 minutes. Please note that these are only guidelines.

Co-sleeping (Mother and Baby Sharing a Room)

Our clinic accommodates the patient’s preferences regarding co-sleeping (mother and baby sharing the room) or the baby staying in a separate room after delivery. If you are fatigued immediately after birth, we can look after your baby while you rest. Conversely, if you wish to spend ample time with your newborn baby in your room, co-sleeping is recommended. It is also possible for only the mother to be admitted.

Breastfeeding Guidance

Our clinic accommodates the patient’s feeding preference for the baby: exclusive breastfeeding, mixed feeding, or formula-only. During your hospitalization, specialized staff will provide clear guidance on feeding practices.

Comprehensive Security System

Our clinic is fully secured with surveillance cameras installed for crime prevention, covering both the interior (including the outpatient area, nurse station, newborn care areas, and patient floor hallways) and the exterior surrounding the clinic property. We have also contracted with a security company that provides a 24-hour emergency dispatch system. Since the SECOM Meguro branch is only one minute away by car, we can guarantee a rapid response in the event of an emergency. To protect the safety and peace of mind of our patients and their families, we have closely consulted with the security company and installed alarm sensors and surveillance cameras both inside and outside the facility. In collaboration with security specialists, our clinic is committed not only to responding to incidents but also to implementing proactive measures and strategies to prevent issues before they occur.
